First we have Bayshore, this is where I swim sometimes in the summer..there is a mile loop swimmers do in this bay. After I am done swimming I go one block over to a cupcake shop and reward my 100 calories burned with 300 more. Hmmm, I wonder why I never lose weight. okay enough about me..this post is all about the tide and all the science and important stuff we need to survive. Besides that cupcake shop moved way down on the other end of 2nd street..so I ....back to science.
Okay what we have here is a lifeguard chair, sticking out of the water, usually it is sticking out of the sand on a beach...this is scientific proof we had an unusually high tide.
This is more proof that the tide was high, this is the bench I sit on when I take Homer down to swim. To the right of the bench is a boat ramp...you can't see it. (because the tide is high) Oh and for all the Dexter fans...this is one of the places they film a lot of outdoor shots. I might have to get my good camera and do a Long Beach Dexter tour. Did I mention there was a really really big moon on Friday.
Now you all know exactly why the moon caused the high tide. Why the high tide turns into a low tide and why the moon isn't always full. See I covered a lot of material..I will give you a few days to let it sink in and then I will test you.
Now on to an important history lesson. I saw MILK this weekend, and it was an awesome movie. I went with Greg, and his boyfriend and their friend and my friend. (Don't worry we will cover proper english next week) It was fun to meet another blogger. He is a cool dude and so is his posse. I am hoping since he is such a lovely writer he will write a review of the movie, because there is no way I can tell you how good it is..(limited vocabulary) The movie made me think how awesome our gay pioneers were, what balls they had. We get so comfy in our little world, hiding who we are to certain people, because it is easy. Those old queens stood up for our rights, risking their livelihood. I wish we had a Harvey Milk for our Prop 8.
No test on history,.....it is always changing.

I heard about that big moon and high tide. The moon is at perigee, if I recall correctly.* Being landlocked here in the South Carolina upstate region I didn't have the opportunity to capture the essence of the higher high tides photographically.
*If I recall correctly = IIRC
They say the moon is the closest it's been to the Earth in 15 years. Pretty cool to see your pictures as evidence of that.
Can't wait to see Milk. I lived in the Castro then, though I didn't know Harvey.
Crap. I forgot to go out and look at the moon.
thanks for telling me to look at the big moon. :) I didn't think about the tides, but that makes sense! I can't wait to see MILK.
Were the Grunion running?..(How many readers know what the hell a Grunion is?)..Cool pix Sage!
I waited in anticipation for this full moon, and it was totally overcast...ratz.
I cannot wait for the quiz!
It was great meeting you and your friend yesterday! Finally -- a fact to put with the blog.
Milk was incredible, and I will blog about it, hopefully today, but I've got a lot of work at the office today. Maybe tonight....
Great pictures, too, sage.
or a face, even.
I went outside and looked at the moon when it was so big..it was scary..really...kept thinking it was going to keep getting bigger and just explode..
once years ago..like 35 years ago i had taken the kids to the beach and the waves were 15 feet high..huge ..made sounds like a cannon when they crashed on the shore..when i told my friend chuch he said you are so full of shit..that beach never has waves like that ..your just full of shit..the next day i brought him the paper where they had a tsunami some place which cause these 'much larger than usual' waves over 15 feet..told him to kiss my ass, i knew a 15 foot wave when i saw one..after that i could lie about all kinds of shit, and he had to belive me..
great post...and I do know what grunion are, and red tides in California. Ahem, gay pioneers also have boobs.
We saw the moon coming up over the mountains near us, just beautiful.
Those pics are cool...
And now I really want to see Milk!!
And like Rosemary so eloquently said, "Gay pioneers also have boobs." *smiles*
Jeeeeeeezus, that's some tide. I suppose I could've gone the one little mile down to the water and seen for myself, but it was too cold out. :)
A MILK review'd be really nice, but that was such a great recommendation. Can not wait to see it. And that Millionaire flick.
A friend of mine from Australia was in San Francisco last week and saw Milk at the movie theatre that is in the movie. She said it was surreal.
Milk was phenomenal (and it sure as hell took me back to my pre-out years).
Sadly, I didn't get a good glimpse at the moon, for it's been snowy, cold and overcast here.
All we got when the moon was big was a great batch of moonlight in which to see the thermometer outside tell us it was frigging cold out! It looked cool though! I didn't even think about the tides...
Okay what the hell is going on - the tides are high in the Adriatic and Venice has had its worst Aqua Alta in 35 years. Last week after torrential rains the Tiber rose 50 feet in just over 36 hours and there have been thunderstorms that last for hours every night for almost 2 weeks. And now you show me high tide at your end of the world. What exactly is going on?
sounds like it could be a cool movie.
the day the tide stood still.
