Lazy, Busy and Thrifty

Wow, I think this is the longest I have gone without blogging. I have been a little lazy on writing how I really feel lately. I have also been busy and really have tried to keep busy because that makes me less stressful. I am all about avoidance.
This weekend we are lucky enough to have the Pac-10 basketball tourney in town so I will get to go watch that. Probably the last weekend until next year to see the women dribble in person. The rest of March Madness I will have to resort to a TV.

Speaking of TV, I cancelled my satellite…I was paying way too much a month for channels I rarely tuned into. So now I made myself an HD antenna out of wood and hangers, and I get 40+ channels absolutely free, and they are crystal clear. We are even picking up San Diego stations, so I am sure if you don’t live close to your main stations you can still try to see if you can also be cheap like me and get free TV. Cable and Satellite companies have gotten out of control with charging people for some things that are actually free if you have wood, hangers. I picked up a converter box at the Kmart for 50 bucks when I get my 40 dollar coupon I will return it and re-purchase it for 10 dollars.
Most of the channels that I don’t get offer their programs on the internet so I don’t think I will miss much. I will have an extra 100 dollars a month though.

If you are curious to see if your TV will pick up stations without paying a cable company I suggest watching this video that shows you how to make an antenna out of wood and hangers. Then if your TV isn’t digital get a coupon here and go get a box for 10 bucks at kmart. Or borrow a friends and check it out.

Just to let you know how companies are all about ripping people off with having to purchase antennas for their TV’s when the new digital signal is standard. The antennas are being sold for about 200.00 dollars. The thing is…they do nothing any different from the wood and hanger antenna. Well they look nicer but I put mine behind my TV and you can’t even see it.

Next week I will give you tips on how to show up at friends house right around dinner time, so you can eat for free.

I am in shock that you cancelled your satellite! Wow... I will have to check out the antenna, right now I can only get about 4 digital channels consistantly. Eat for free?? I am all for that!

I think if I tried that the kids would riot because the coat hanger antenna wouldn't work for me.

I like your new blog focus though: Sageweb's Thrifty Tips!

We just got rid of Skye - all we ever seem to get was I Simpson and how many times can you watch Mr Burns get shot? I know who did it already! And it was costing E79 (USD130)

But of course now we get Italian game shows and Arabic channels advertising sex chat lines. Sometimes a good book is the answer.

I'm with Citizen- the mortgage hint is the one I'm waiting for! Sadly I can't ditch the dish due to living in BFE.

clever...very clever. We will actually try this. We live in the sticks and then some....we bought the converter box, did not work. we only got 3 local channels before the conversion and now get one that will change in June...so we wasted the 40 bucks...I'll let you know. We eat at six....drop in anytime.

Ok, we didn't make our own antenna but ours only cost 14.95 and we have been on board with the "don't pay for TV" thing for a long time! We mostly watch movies anyway.

Bring on the dinner tips!

Thanks, Sage.

My techno-geek son in Seattle does the same thing but never has fully explained it to me. Have been wanting to fire DirecTV for a while now.

Way to go! Keep those tips coming. I have sent the video to my da, he is a sharpy, and needs to make one. Would be thrilled to let Direct TV go.
We are hanging in there on our own eggs, veggies, & beef. But the ol budget can use all the help it can get on making the mortgage payments.

I don't know why you'd dump your job when you get to see all the presidential pageantry, but if you did, you'd make a kick ass Heloise.
